
The U.S. Department of Agriculture and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services publish guidelines that recommend dietary practices accepted by nutrition authorities as having a positive impact on health.
These guidelines include the following:
- Eat a wide variety of foods from the food groups such as Grain products, Vegetables, Fruits, Milk and Milk products, Protein-rich plant foods (beans, nuts) and Protein-rich animal foods (meat, poultry, fish and eggs).
- Choose a diet low in fat. Limit the amount of cholesterol.
- Use moderation in the consumption of sugars, salt, sodium and alcohol.
