In the United States
To calculate your BMI multiply your weight in pounds by 704, then divide by the square of your height in inches.
For example, if your weight is 130 pounds and your height is 64in., your BMI is (130 x 704)/(64 x 64) = 22.3.
In Europe and Asia
For those using the metric system, divide your weight in kilograms by the square of your height in meters.
For example, if your weight is 66 kg and your height is 1.70 m your BMI is 66/(1.7 x 1.7) = 22.8.
The WHO classification of obesity
Based on an average build a BMI:
• Less than 18.5 is a caution zone; watch your weight.
• Between 18.5 and 24.9 is considered healthy.
• Between 25 and 29.9 is a caution zone; watch your weight, you are considered overweight.
• Greater than 30 reflects obesity.
